For those who don't like the official rules, and decide to make up house rules, think about it. The purpose of the game is for people to run out of money. Free parking money, double Go, and not buying properties only ADDS money into the game, and makes the game longer. This is why Monopoly takes so long for some people. You people LITERALLY take steps to make sure the game is long. (A quick fix to the auction that I do with my friends: Grab one DVD case, an index card, and a pen for each person. When someone doesn't want to buy, everyone will then write the property name and an amount on the card. The banker will then collect the DVDs, and then discover who bid the highest.) The game is not about being rich, it's about being richer than everyone else. If you play by the rules and with strategy, you will win. If you make up rules, you are not being progressive. Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Or $400. |
