1977 - Two 747s collide on the runway at Tenerife (North) airport in heavy fog.

1985 - 747 crashes on Mt.Osutaka, Japan. Improper repairs after a tail strike 7 years earlier, led to a rupture of the pressure bulkhead.
1974 - DC-10 crashes into a forest at Ermenonville, France. A defective latching mechanism on the cargo door caused it to fail in flight resulting in decompression.
1985 - 747 blown up by a bomb while in Irish airspace at an altitude of 31,000 feet (9,400 m), and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.
1979 - DC-10 crashes at Chicago O'Hare Airport, after losing an engine during takeoff. Improper maintenance procedures were to blame.

2005 - Incorrect setting on cabin pressurization panel of this 737-300 caused all on board to succumb to hypoxia. The aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed into Greek hillside.
1985 - Lockheed L-1011 TriStar crashes on approach to the Dallas-Ft Worth. A meteorological phenomenon known as microburst-induced wind shear was a major factor.
1987 - Boeing 747 suffers catastrophic in-flight fire in cargo area and crashes into Indian Ocean near Mauritius killing all on board. The cause of the fire is never established.
2002 - Boeing 747 disintegrates in mid-air and crashes 20 minutes after taking off from Taipei. Faulty repair following an earlier tailstrike caused the entire tail section to fail
1985 - One engine of the Boeing 737 caught fire during takeoff. Despite successfully abandoning takeoff, 55 people died as the fire quickly found its way into the passenger cabin.
2009 - Airbus A320 encounters bird strike with a flock of geese just seconds after taking off from LaGuardia Airport, New York. Plane ditches safely into the Hudson River.
1986 - DC-9 collides in mid-air with a Piper Archer N4891F over Cerritos, California, causing both planes to go out of control, killing 82 people.
