| * In 2011, in connection with adding 3 games to what was known as the Opening Round from 2001-2010, the NCAA changed the name of the Opening Round to the First Round. Hence, the old first round (i.e., the round of 64) became officially known as the second round (and thus 60 of the 68 teams in the tournament began play in the second round). So Georgetown didn't win a game in the 2011 tournament despite losing in the "Second Round." This is true for some of their second round losses prior to 1985 also, but in those years, unlike 2011, the round known as the first round was the actual beginning of the tournament for most teams. Only a handful got byes to second round. |
