| This is actually the original version of the lyric(except for the minor reversal mentioned). It was rewritten at the request of Judy Garland, oddly enough. The line "hang a shining star upon the highest bough" replaced "until then we'll have to muddle through somehow." Garland thought the original lyric was too depressing. I don't know how the revised version got to be "official," though. (Incidentally, it's technically not a carol, but that's a minor point.) |
