I don't know why I always do the sports trivia ones like this... all they do is remind me how little I actually know about sports. Props to the rest of you though.

9/25. Would have been 10/25 if I hadn't forgotten the tenet: If there's a question about baseball, one of the answers is *always* Jimmie Foxx

19 out of 25... missing Joe Morgan was inexcusable.

It seems outrageous that Babe Ruth and Pete Rose are not correct answers, doesn't it?

Not really, Tom: The MVP as we know it today didn't exist until 1931, which was well after Ruth's best years. Rose won it once, in '73, but was facing competition from his own teammates on The Big Red Machine who won in '70, '72, and '75-'77.

That was more difficult than I thought it'd be. I'll take my 18, but I'm not too happy about it.

I missed Newhouser and Hubble... and Johnny Bench! No excuse. I knew it had to be from those Big Red Machine teams too. Rose... nope. Perez... nope. Foster... nope. Johnny freakin Bench.

Heywood J: It does, however, credit Gehrig for winning in 1927.

Hey Kevin. You are correct; I missed that. Thanks for pointing that out. The deal with that was there was a League Award from 1922-29 that was a precursor to the MVP as we know it. Ruth won it in 1923, but one of the stipulations of that award was that no former winners could be considered, which explains why Gehrig won in '27 when Ruth had one of his best seasons.

It makes me sick to see Barry Bonds up there 7 times. How many times did he actually earn it?

@Teresa, If you believe "Game of Shadows" Bonds earned 3 of his MVP's before he started using HGH

@stlblues74 - because Hornsby's awards were before the BBWAA's MVP award. He won the shortlived National League award.

Here's an interesting question: Who is the worst winner of multiple MVPs? Of eligible player, only Murphy, Maris and Gonzalez are not in the Hall of Fame. You could throw Newhouser in that group since he won both his awards in a WWII-weakened league. I'd probably say Gonzalez is the worst of the group.

I can't believe I missed Greenberg. Gonzalez was too productive over a long stretch to be considered the worst. It pains me to say it but I would put Maris since he only had a handfull of productive seasons outside of 60-61. It's a shame but his career outside of three seasons is disappointing.

@JoshT: Hal Newhouser is one of the least deserving members of the Hall of Fame - his career record throwing out his war-years record is barely over .500 (127-123). While conceivable that he could have done well against anyone in the prime of his career, he still only had 3 dominant years, and a total of 7 seasons with double-digit wins. Gonzalez hit over 400 HRs, albeit in a juiced era, but was one of the most dangerous hitters in the AL for a good 10 years.
