Very well done, and I am nominating it. I think this idea has been done before but not this well. One point, I'm not sure I'd count Svalbard as Europe. I mean... obviously it's a territory of Norway, and I suppose if you had to categorise it you'd put it in Europe, but it's certainly a stretch.

A good quiz well made, but I am a little puzzled by the omission of a few "African" islands, namely: Reunion, Socotra and Bioko. These are all large enough to be included in the answers and are all African by common sense and your own criteria: "The continent to which an island belongs is determined physiographically and not politically."

I had the same thoughts as those expressed above regarding the "African" islands. Socotra is a really tough call, but Bioko and Reunion are clearly "African" by the criterion given. Additionally, the Canary Islands seems to me to clearly be more Afican than European, and Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria are all larger than Morfil. This is still a fabulous quiz!

Am I mistaken in thinking it's Vancouver Island and Victoria is its biggest city?

Reunion island is bigger than Mauritius, Zanzibar or Grande Comore. And both islands of Novaya Zemlya are bigger than Sicily.

Apologies for the mix-ups regarding physiographically vs. politically, I'll have the African countries fixed soon and I'll re-check the others.

Sorry to double-post, but in response to vinz, Novaya Zemlya is part of Asia and not Europe, despite the fact that it is part of Russia.

@rutbag: Yes, Victoria is the largest city on Vancouver Island, but Victoria Island is a much larger island in the far north of Canada.

Novaya Zemlya is often regarded as a part of Europe, wikipedia among others call the islands "the extreme northeast of Europe" --- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novaya_Zemlya

Lol at your comment on Australia. And at the fact that two of South America's islands are in rivers. And I think it would be clearer if you changed the heading to "South America and the Caribbean." Since you didn't specify, I assumed that it was considered part of North America (as it's usually classified) and that by "Central America" you meant Guatemala to Panama.

I believe New Guinea is both part of Oceania and Asia. Western part is Indonesian and eastern part belongs to Papua New Guinea.

Technically, the country of Ireland is included within the island of Great Britain. Otherwise, wonderful quiz!

Tenerife and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) should be included. Although part of Spain, they are geographically much more connected to Africa than to Europe.

physiographically, new guinea is oceania. its specifically states that it is not political. i don't know how ireland could ever be considered the "same island" as great britain, either politically or physiographically.

A good idea for a quiz but there are a number of improvements and corrections that I would suggest to get it published. The Canaries are clearly part of Africa (just look at the map) and I spent an annoying amount of time checking spelling of Tenerife and Gran Canaria (which is too small anyway). I had exactly the same problem with Socotra which has always been considered to be part of Africa from a geographical perspective. Bioko is much more commonly known as Fernando Po in Europe and this should be accepted as an answer as should Celebes for Sulawesi. I would not include Bananal as it is simply formed by a split in the river Araguaia and is in the middle of South America. It is not an island surrounded by the sea. This would be replaced by Puerto Rico as Tupinambarana Island has split into four via fluvial erosion.

There are quite a few improvements I would make as well. The Caribbean is geographically a part of North America, not South America. Also Australia is a continental landmass because of its vast size, its like Europe being in the ocean. It is too large to be considered an island, so change your bonus answer of Australia's explanation of "Australia is considered a continental landmass for some reason" @THEJMAN: two separate islands are not "technically" the same island.
