This quiz was the product of my attempt to make yet another quiz in which, as always, everybody gets screwed by Equatorial Guinea.

With Ireland, you made the answer the city (Dublin) instead of the country. Also, you missed Brunei.

Ireland still won't work. You also missed Cape Verde. I think it would be more interesting if you'd exclude island nations, i.e., states that lie exclusively on islands. This way it's more a way of yet again listing all islands instead of focusing on the interesting cases.

Tonga didn't work for me, even including the apostrophe. You should add an alternative answer that doesn't need it. Stockholm is on a number of islands but also on the mainland of Sweden.

Only missed Banjul and Abu Dhabi... but I guess that's satisfying as I had no idea they were located on islands.

It's those mainland countries with islands that get you, like Eq. Guinea and Denmark, as I found out. Good quiz.

@Headers2304 Yep, Equatorial Guinea and Denmark are the only two countries in the world with a 'mainland' and an island region and the capital is on an island *not* the mainland.

Well, I thought that was the case but apparently you can make a case for Gambia as well.

Abu Dhabi is a bit contentious. Only a small portion is an island, most of it is on the mainland.

@Rhys check Google Earth/Maps. I missed UAE, but it looks like most of the city actually IS on an island.

@ Vc Pavao - Banjul is on an island @ The end of Gambia and is connected - Which is what I'm also wondering. This quiz is on island places like Indonesia - Java, Borneo. But Indonesia is not an island as it does border Brunei, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. So this quiz is on countries whose capital is on an island. Not if the country is an island or not.

Eq. Guinea was the first one I got, actually, but it took much longer to guess the UAE and the Gambia. I'd seen maps of the central African area, for some reason or another.

Abu Dhabi is separated from the mainland by a wee little canal, which of course counts, but it also calls into question whether all those associated neighborhoods on the mainland also count as part of Abu Dhabi or not. It's also pretty hard to tell whether what Banjul is on is actually an island, or whether there's some sort of sandbar or marsh or whatever connecting it to the mainland (and being colorblind doesn't make examining those satellite maps any easier.) In any case, not a bad idea for a quiz.

aka, quick, name 92% of oceania. also, sporcle teaches yet again: I did not realize how much of malaysia (including kuala lumpur) was part of the indian subcontinent!

I was flying through this gleefully laughing as I named every island due to spoclitis until I hit 47 with three minutes to go and did not get a single one after that. I suppose it helps to know a country's geography in addition to a name... :(

lol @notThere on January 8th with his comment about Denmark. You look a fool now. Haha. The capital of Denmark is on an island in between the Danish mainland and the Swedish mainland.

@bumpgrrl: None of Malaysia is remotely close to the India subcontinent. However, the whole of the Malayan Peninsula is on the Asian mainland

I couldn't understand why it wasn't accepting sri jayawardenapura kotte. Then I saw that it accepted only kotte. Usually Sporcle asks for the full name. Good quiz.

Fun quiz! Equatorial Guinea was the first one I got, due to a school project I made about it last year. I also got Copenhagen (Denmark) pretty quickly as I live there. Had no idea at all about The Gambia!

@sequoia Last time I checked, Paris was the capital of France, not Ile de la Cite, which is about 100 times smaller. If you included it, you could include every single capital with a large river, which is bound to have islands inside.
