| Actually, I think only Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Myanmar, Tanzania, and Israel only have one capital. Although most countries have stationed their embassies in Tel Aviv, Israel considers Jerusalem to be its capital, and the Knesset assembles there. Although the transfer has yet to be completed, Dar es Salaam ceased being the capital of Tanzania in 1996, and Yangon ceased being the capital of Myanmar in 2008. Abuja has been Nigeria's one and only capital city since 1991, and Yamoussoukro has been Côte d'Ivoire's official capital since 1977. Lagos and Abidjan can be the commercial hubs of the country - but governmental functions - administrative, legislative, judicial, royal/ceremonial - are no longer carried out from them.
I would add Chile to this list though, as Valparaíso is where the Chilean National Assembly meets, thus making it a legislative capital. |
