Guyana is a legitimate point. I think there's going to be some debate over whether Y is a vowel or a noun. Perhaps you could make Guyana a Bonus Answer and resolve it quickly with that compromise. Great quiz!!

I always thought of Y as just a consonant but at a push it could be a consonant only at the end of a word. In that case Guyana would be a right answer and so would the answers now. Good quiz though.

Yeah, what about Guyana? And Italy shouldn't be on there. Y is not a vowel.

Yeah, Guyana should be on there, I think. Just missed that one. I'm a bit unsure if I should just scrap Italy, and never accept y as a vowel. Maybe just have Italy as a bonus so it doesn't affect scores.

Perhaps San Marino and Vatican City could be bonus answers, as their separate words would be correct.

San Marino and Vatican City have two consecutive consonants; unless you count Vatican without the City as the country.

Y is indeed sometimes used as a vowel, so Italy belongs on the quiz.

In Italy's name, Y functions as a vowel; In Guyana's name, it functions as a consonant. You are correct to include both countries. Great quiz!

There's no such thing as "functions as a vowel". Y is no vowel, so Italy doesn't belong here. Make it a bonus answer, along with san marino and vatican city (for each word of both working seperately). Oh, and I'm completely surprised with UAE. I thought about it and skipped it for being "too long" before even checking.

Except that there IS such a thing as functioning as a vowel. In the onset, Y is a consonant. Otherwise, it's a vowel. That's just how English works. Keep in mind that the IPA [y] isn't even used in English, and there's a slight physical difference between the y in "yes" and the y in "Italy": the former is IPA [j] and the latter is IPA [i]. [j] is a consonant and [i] is a vowel. So yes, Y can be both, and this quiz does a marvelous job at discerning between them. Five.

Y might function as a vowel, but at the end of the day it is not a vowel, and although it functions as one in Italy, it does not have alternating consanants and vowels, because Y is a consanant. I could have guessed italy, but i thought it would not work on this quiz because Y is not a vowel, even if it functions as one.

Y is a vowel. Y is also a consonant. It's both. There is such thing as gray, you know.

Excellent quiz. Many more countries than you would think. I'm easy on the Y thing since I got Italy and Guyana, and boy did I need them! Only 24.

How about Vatican City? The whole country name doesn't exactly fit the rules, but each word, taken separately, does.

Re; vatican. I believe the name of the country is vatican, the city that takes up the entire country is vatican city. I learned in elementary street that the vowels are A,E,I,O,U, and sometimes Y. So talk to your elementary school teachers and ask why they lied to you.

The plural of "country" is "countries"...you should probably fix that. But a really interesting quiz, overall.

How is Guyana pronounced? To me, it seems like the 'y' alters the vowel sound, making it a vowel itself. In Italy, the 'y' is clearly a vowel. Is Guyana supposed to have the consonant 'y' sound? Good quiz overall.

No Vatican? Every other Sporcle quiz calls it Vatican, so it would fit the quiz criterion.
