Great quiz! Wish I could turn it into a proper picture quiz for you, but such is not my power.

For the 2nd row, 1st image, I was sure that this was a metal band. What a shock when I saw who they really were. lol

When I was searching old pictures of Cream, I struggled to find one where I could identify Eric Clapton.
Mar 22nd, 2012 at 13:31 GMT
I love the quiz. On the top right, I omitted the first name, and didn't get it. Would you be willing to accept that?
Mar 22nd, 2012 at 17:18 GMT
More people recognize Motorhead than Rush?
Mar 22nd, 2012 at 17:25 GMT
5 globes for including Triumph!
Mar 22nd, 2012 at 18:44 GMT
Was hoping for Alkaline Trio, oh well

I got them all but Triumph and Cream. Future additions could include Eve 6, Fastball, Semisonic, Marcy Playground...basically most of 1998's big one hit wonders.

In addition to Karmacode's suggestions, there's a ton of non-famous bands: Ash, Better Than Ezra, The Minutemen, fIREHOSE, silverchair, Babes in Toyland, Chevelle, Ben Folds Five, Husker Du, The Melvins, Primus, Presidents of the United States of America...

Yeah, but how many would you recognize by a picture? How about A-Ha, Muse or Peter, Paul & Mary?
Mar 23rd, 2012 at 02:15 GMT
I was expecting the Beastie Boys to be on here.
Mar 23rd, 2012 at 13:38 GMT
I can't believe I didn't think of Peter Paul and Mary.

Get ready to vote me down into hell, but I'm sick of seeing Green Day on so many Music Quizzes; call me when they do something noteworthy (since Nimrod or Dookie), and no that "Broadway Show" they've inspired does not count (#commercial2004albumlackingnotewrothytriumphbeyondmediaacclaim(s))

I had no idea Triumph was only a trio. Their music is so complex I assumed that they had to have either a synth player or a rhythm guitarist. Great, GREAT band.
Mar 24th, 2012 at 15:07 GMT
I took a liking to Triumph when I was at college in upstate NY, almost on the Canadian border.
Mar 24th, 2012 at 18:03 GMT
ChiSoxND12: I don't consider myself a Green Day fan boy, but I would consider "American Idiot" to be noteworthy. Anyway, great quiz. Guessed Triumph and got it, but couldn't figure out Cream.

I feel like if you're asking folks to name bands, then one should have to name the ____ _______ Experience, not just the headliner's name. Fun quiz!

Do the Bee Gees really count as a trio? As front men, yes, they were usually a trio (not so much in the early days, however), but they always played with other musicians. Maybe I'm nitpicking too much.

My comment got voted to shreds, but I didn't want to give away any answers. What I was suggesting is that "The Hendrix Experience" be accepted. I didn't put Jimi, and therefor didn't get the answer.

I was so excited to see this quiz because I just knew I could finally put my Yo La Tengo knowledge to good use. Sadly, they were absent.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 04:23 GMT
One of the first I thought of was Triumph. Sad to see they've been banished. At least they had their shot, unlike the fairly recognizable Cheap Trick.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 04:30 GMT
Myitbos: I though of Triumph as well though I don't think they were ever that famous. Was also hoping to see the Thompson Twins.

Surprised Peter, Paul & Mary didn't make the cut. Is that the best Nirvana picture you could find?
Oct 30th, 2012 at 04:46 GMT
Genesis was only a three member band for part of their existence.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 05:11 GMT
Dammit, spelt Jimi wrong.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 05:21 GMT
HANSON? Helloooooooo? (But seriously, I'm just steamed because I put "Los Lobos." So close.)

@nearlyextinct: A couple of points to consider--
1--They were a trio during the most successful period of their career. (The corollary, of course, is that this was the group that American audiences became familiar with.)
2--If you're going to get that nitpicky, you can say the same thing about Crosby, Stills and Nash. Not only did the group expand by adding Neil Young temporarily, but Crosby and Nash performed as a duo.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 06:47 GMT
glad to see Rush make the cut. One the the best bands ever
Oct 30th, 2012 at 08:19 GMT
Emerson, Lake and Palmer ?
Oct 30th, 2012 at 09:04 GMT
Twice as many knew Destiny's Child as Rush. Pathetic.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 10:09 GMT
I would have been interested to see how Muse fared, being a bit more recent than most of the bands/groups on there

Lemmy's band is actually Motörhead, not Motorhead.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 12:37 GMT
If Genesis is in this quiz, R.E.M. should make it as well...

Would have like to have seen Salt N Pepa. Also Medeski Martin & Wood.
Oct 30th, 2012 at 13:40 GMT
Ben Folds Five would've been a fun and tricky addition...

CSN was a pale shadow of CSNY.
