| Yes, there's a ton of novels I could have put in here, but I tried not to make it too overwhelming. Also, I would classify the titles you mentioned as primarily belonging to the post-apocalyptic genre; that is, they focus on an individual or a group trying to survive in a world recently ravaged by some kind of disaster. Dystopian fiction can have post-apocalyptic elements, and often features a "special" individual or group struggling to adapt, but the structure of the society itself is equally important to the story. 1984 is a good example; although atomic war is mentioned as a precursor to the state of the world (IIRC), the story revolves around Winston as an individual and how he relates to the oppressive world he lives in. Of course, this is all my opinion :) |
