	Missouri really was the trickiest, especially considering it borders a lot of states and none are particularly narrow.

	Brilliant quiz! You might want to specifically exclude water borders though, since Michigan and Minnesota abut each other via a water border in Lake Superior.

	Same thing with Michigan and Illinois, they abut each other via a water border in Lake Michigan. It does appear that jaehak has a good point, if water borders are excluded it does appear that Michigan is closer to Illinois than Minnesota. If you include water borders than I guess the closest non-abutting state to Michigan would be Pennsylvania.

	Actually Michigan is closer to Minnesota than it is to Illinois because Isle Royale National Park, an island in Lake Superior that is very close to Minnesota, is actually part of Michigan. So keep that answer the way it is.

	When you say "water borders", you're not commenting on an ugly chapter in US history, are you? ;-) I guess we can add a comment to exclude "water borders" (like Bush and Cheney).

	Rhode Island is definitely wrong. It is ~46 miles to New Hampshire versus ~87 to New York.

	@caronenv: perhaps the quizmaster is looking at the distance from Rhode Island to the tip of Long Island (Montauk).

	Actually, the distance from New York to Rhode Island is only about 2 miles. Fishers Island is part of new york and just off the coast of Rhode Island. On a similar note, I would suggest that Louisiana is closer to Alabama than to Oklahoma. Look at the distance from Breton National Wildlife Refuge to the Alabama coast. Also, it seems to me that the four corners states should not count as "abutting" and thus colorado should be closest to arizona etc.
