| The "border length coefficient" I'm using tells you how far around a circle of the same area as the country you could wrap the land border of the country; the formula is (length of border)/(2 * sqrt (pi * area of country)). If you have a better concise way of explaining this, please let me know; I'm having trouble coming up with one. You can see the spreadsheet where I computed all the coefficients here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AraXyipjZkXhdDNNUHJlUEFhSG51RXQzVjFQNWVaU3c&hl=en The areas I used came from the CIA World Factbook here: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2147rank.html The border lengths I used came from Wikipedia, which in the cases I spot-checked appears to be taking all its data from the Factbook; unfortunately it's hard to get border lengths from the Factbook in aggregate, so until I find a better source I'll just assume that whoever aggregated them on Wikipedia got them right.
