If you are going to include homeruns hit while at other positions (as you did for Rodriguez and Banks), why not Ruth for pitcher? // Also, if I wanted to maximize my homerun total, I'd put Rodriguez at shortstop and put Schmidt in at third.

I agree, if you look at home runs by a third baseman, while playing third base. Schmidt wins, not Rodriguez.

If you look at home runs by a shortstop, while playing short, Ripken wins, not Rodriguez.

the same goes for thome. he only has 310 homers as a first basemen. mcgwire has 566 as a first basemen.
