I would love more time!

Ah back in the day when 100m was a box office smash. These days films need to get that just to break even.

You're missing Platoon.

"Best Little ****house" but no "Vacation". Weird. Which movie does everyone love now?

no weekend at bernies, the big chill, sixteen candles or breakfast club? from where are these people getting their information? blasphemy!!!!

Goes to show that just because a bunch of people paid money to see a movie doesn't mean that they'll remember it 30 years later.

I need to try this again and actually think about it. Can't believe how many obvious answers I missed.

Looking at the overall list reminds one what a remarkable launching pad Saturday Night Live was for a stretch there. Not just that these people went on to make films, but that they were top ten year after year - Blues Brothers, Stripes, 48 Hrs, Trading Places, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Spies Like Us, The Golden Child, Coming To America. (Not to mention Murray's hysterical supporting role in Tootsie.)

I know that you had no control over which movies were top grossing, but I gave this five (globes?) just for Dead Poets Society.

I have seen 90 of these 100 films...I guess I get to keep my 80s card...

Surprised Dirty Dancing didn't make it. That movie seemed like it was everywhere.

So, writing Indiana Jones gives two of the three Indiana Jones films? Weird.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 05:42 GMT
Not only does writing Indiana Jones give two answers, but "Smokey and" gives you the full title, yet Star Wars 2/3/4 don't seem to work. (okay, so I forgot the real titles momentarily--shoot me). Sadly, I have seen 89 of these but could only come up with 36. May have to jump off a bridge. Surprised Caddyshack was not there or any Vacation movies. Think of the star wattage in Caddyshack--Dangerfield, Chase, Murray, Knight (all of whom had followings from TV or standup, including the vaunted SNL connection). No Buckaroo Banzai across the Tenth Dimension? Scandalous!

I had to type 'Dirty Dancing' in twice just to make sure it wasn't registering. Yet typing 'Porky's' worked!

Good lord...when they come up I'm like..."damn I've seen that movie!"
Oct 15th, 2012 at 21:24 GMT
How come Predator isn't on the list? According to Wikipedia, it came out in 1987 and made over $98 million in the box office. That would put it 5th in 1987 in this list.

@jammastajew: You're looking at international numbers; this quiz only accounts for North American box office.

This just proves how poor Americans' tastes in movies are. No "Shining"? No "Mississippi Burning"? No "Breakfast Club"?!? Oh well, at least "WarGames" made it. IMHO that movie defined the decade, the beginning of the personal-computing-meets-supposed-end-of-the-Cold-War era.
