	Browns are named after founding head coach Paul Brown, who's a person...the Spurs I added, my mistake...the Maple Leafs are named for the Maple Leaf regiment of the Canadian army in WWI.

	Fun quiz. The mere fact that a team was named through a "name that team" contest does not change the fact that the name likely refers to something. For example, even though the Denver Nuggets were evidently named through a contest, the name still refers to gold nuggets mined from the mountains. Similarly, Orlando Magic refers to the Magic Kingdom at Disney. I think you should change the "meaning of name" column to reflect this.

	tampa bay ray...no longer the devil ray (animal) but now a ray ie of sunshine that goes as far south as the Florida Keys and north as the florida pan handle

	tc22, the 76ers team name refers specifically to the year, because of the historical implications. The 49ers are the people who came west to California during the 1849 gold rush.

	I've made a quiz for each of the four sports on their team etymology (I reached the limit, so they're not out, so I'm not trying to 'advertise' or anything) but I can tell you that the St Louis Blues is actually named for a song titled "St Louis Blues." Still, great quiz. Also, jorgeb, the rays are still named after the animal, not "rays of sunshine." This isn't a quiz about team names that are homonyms of inanimate objects.

	Good quiz - one correction, though, while Pistons are certainly appropriate for Detroit with its well-known auto industry, the name actually originated with a piston manufaturing company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, whose owner owned the team.

	If you have the Mets up there then you should add the Montreal Canadiens, whose original name was "le Club de hockey Canadien" (which translates roughly "The Club of Canadian Hockey") leading to the team being called the Canadiens.

	Perhaps the Columbus Blue Jackets website suggests your reason for the name, but I'm inclined to think they came up with it based on the Shawnee chief Blue Jacket. An outdoor drama was performed in central Ohio for decades about him.

	The New York Knicks should definately NOT be on the list. "Knickers" are short pants, but a "Knickerbocker" refers to the original Dutch settlers of New York. The term comes from Diedrich Knickerbocker, a fictional Dutchman who was the supposed author of Washington Irving's "History Of New York," published in 1809. The word "Knickerbocker" eventually came to be a nickname for any resident of New York.
