I thought this was about the different types of engines: diesel, internal combustion, steam, etc. The description is poorly written.

no, the description is right out of the textbook. You are referring to classifications of engines which btw a diesel is an internal combustion engine.

And I agree completely with midlifecrisis, system is a very general term, and gives no hint as to what you are asking for. Just because it is called that in your textbook doesn't mean we know what it is talking about.
