Nice quiz. But three minutes is absolutely nowhere near enough time. I'd say eight minutes or maybe even more.

Seeing as you can't 'know' the answers (without already doing the quiz), I think it would be better to add even more time. I think I could keep interested for 12 minutes no problem. I got about half of them, but I hadn't exhausted my ideas! Cracking quiz though!

This quiz is too US-centric.

i literally had no idea where to even begin, or what to even guess. this can be a bit of payback for all of the intensely us-centric quizzes.

In light of how difficult this is, maybe you could accept singular names, like "Fox and Hound" for example, as an alternate answer for names like "Fox and Hounds"?

Same as above. I was always told that Red Lion was the most common pub name in the UK, so am surprised! But haven't even ever seen a pub called The Fox and that's pretty well guessed! Fantastic quiz and five glowing sporcle orb things from me.

I am shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED, that "The Prancing Pony" isn't listed here. Scandalous!

yeah i've seen in quiz books having Red Lion as most common pub name. i'm not saying this quiz is erroneous, it could be like several Red Lions have closed down, or changed their names to The Crown. nevertheless, i enjoyed this quiz, and it's brought to my attention that i need to visit a lot more pubs.

Don't think I've been to a Golden Lion or a Hare & Hounds. Otherwise, reckon I've got them all covered. Hic! (Not that I could think of more than 17 of them for this quiz......)

@escapehere There's no way I'm co-managing a pub called the "Swan and Paedo". Great quiz though, really tough!

Aren't some of these names standard for "tied houses" owned by big brewers? (not that I guessed the most popular after the Crown, since it's decades since I've been in Britain or Ireland).

Slug and Lettuce is a large pub chain all across the UK. It is the antithesis of a proper pub. Those kinds of self-consciously "wacky" names are not traditional at all; they're mainly given to pubs opened in the last 20 years and aimed squarely at non-locals, tourists and people who just don't care about atmosphere, decent beer etc.

it's "i am only the running footman" by martha grimes, a richard jury novel--cracking good read, also a lot of humour in the books

Agree with Williams27, there are lots of Slug and Lettuce pubs and they are all complete ****e and not real pubs at all. I imagine only tourists are amused by their presence on our highstreets. Same at Yates'. *sigh* I need a pint now. Where are all the Dog and Ducks??
