I tip my hat to anyone who gets Dubuque. Great combination of religion and geography!

Mobile? I assume there are some Catholics due to the Cajun population along the Gulf Coast, but I would have guessed Baton Rouge or Shreveport before Mobile.

Baton Rouge and Shreveport are dioceses within the Province of New Orleans, which covers all of Louisiana. The Province of Mobile covers Mississippi and Alabama; Mobile is the logical place for the metropolitan seat, I'd think, since most of the rest of those states are pretty heavily Protestant.

Houston and Hartford should be swapped to preserve alphabetical order...

Mobile's history goes way back as a Catholic city; it was established by the French and for a long time was the dominant city in Alabama. The first Mardi Gras celebrations in the U.S. were held there. Dubuque is the one that blew my mind. I could have been sitting here guessing for an hour before I got that one!

I guessed Dubuque, just couldn't spell it. It does rhyme with puke.

No Archbishop of Las Vegas... that's probably a good thing.

Wouldn't Santa Fe be considered out of order alphabetically, in English? I know San and Santa mean the same thing in Spanish, but do English alphabetizing rules follow the Spanish convention in this case? Threw me off, that's for sure.

Follow up, found a source: "The prefixes Saint, San, Santa, Santo, St., and Ste. should be treated exactly as they are spelled." Gregg 1210 (Rule 2c)

Definitely need to move Santa Fe... basically just asking people to name major US cities and a few other random things.. doesn't seem to have a ton of value, but it was a challenge!

Surprised there's no archdiocese for Honolulu, and I suppose San Juan isn't U.S. for these purposes (although I bet her archbishop belongs to the National Council of Catholic Bishops). Please add Saint Paul and Saint Louis as acceptable alternatives. "Minneapolis" is already an accepted alternative for St. Paul.

Also there must be some very old dioceses like Santa Fé and San Antonio that no longer rank (if they ever did) as archbishoprics, like St. Augustine and Monterey.
