| I do of course, see your point and understand. However, it's always been my opinion that having the macron is a post-classical addition, and that leads to confusion. Granted, there wouldn't be any punctuation either, but whatever. The naturally long syllables are, indeed, natural, so therefore it becomes readily apparent once the words are spoken out loud. As for the scansion, once a student has a basic idea of scansion and rhythm, the macrons become unnecessary. Likewise, once a student has the ability to translate, and has a clue about the style of poetry, it becomes easier to determine the cases. Even if there is a question about scansion or case determination, the other can help answer the question. |
