Sunderland should be on here, as it has a population of 280,807, according to the 2001 census.

nope, sunderland shouldn't if it is done according to the population of the actual city, and not the municipal borough. It's actual city popn is 177,739 according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunderland,_Tyne_and_Wear If the populations were down on metropolitan areas, then for one, London would have a population nearer to 13 million than 7. However, it should be more specific, and say on which figure it is based, because in certain circomstances, sunderland could be on this list!
