Wow. I must be human, because my powers of deduction were totally dwarfed by this quiz.

You've got "Grimbold" on there twice. And I guessed on all 30 lol.

Ah, right you are! One has been replaced. I guess a lot of the point was to get people to guess from the sound of the name, as these characters generally aren't well-known ones.

Nicely done,
Max
. Thank you for not including EƤrendil or Elrond. I would have surely needed some
miruvor
to help determine their race!

I think some of these names are not canonical.

First of all, how is anyone supposed to know the names of the characters (like Anendel) who are only present in the movie, but are not named? Second, who on earth (or Middle-Earth) is Peldor? Wikipedia has a list of all of the characters in Lord of the Rings, and he's not on there, nor can he be found by searching on Google.

I think you should accept "Man" because that is usually what the race is called.

Haldir is also a chieftain of the Haladin (humans) in the Silmarillion.

Nice quiz. I like when this style of quiz requires only the first letter for an answer but, then again, I'm one of the laziest people you'll ever find on sporcle.

why does it have to be that almost all the dwarf names Tolkien give feature in the books? And why did he make the elf and man names sound so much alike?

greatascender: The Man names that sound most like the Elf names are usually the Dunedain, who are strongly tied to the Elves anyway. They use the same language.

Agree with NathanW197. Movie-only characters are NOT Tolkien characters. I can only find Peldor on a D&D website, so he's not a Tolkien character either. I still like the quiz overall though!

As others have pointed out, fully a third of these are not Tolkien characters. Moreover, the more prominent Haldir in Tolkien's works is a human. A quiz on movie characters should not be in the literature section.

@Aiwendil: Haldir is also an captain of Lothlorien in the books, but he is less present than in the films.

i liked this quiz. these guys are just whining when they got low scores. i think the point (and i could be wrong) was trying to guess the race, which is relatively easy if one is familiar with tolkien's writing and/or the lotr films, not necessarily knowing who the characters are. anyway...i had fun, good job!

Wow, my first publication! Sorry to everyone who has complaints, I'll try to resolve those issues that people have raised. I'll ask them to accept "Man" for all the "Human" answers too. I hope people enjoyed the quiz nonetheless

Maybe you could throw in some orcs to make it even more challenging.

That was fun! Could really turn it into something special though by including Orcs, Goblins, Eagles, HOBBITS, Trolls, Nazgul,Ents,Wizards (whom I suspect are a race of thier own from what I have read), Spiders, Dragons and whatever the hell Bombadil is supposed to be!

I'm confused. Where I come from Nori is a normal human name. Bombur is the plural for bombs. Interesting name that. He must be quite the character.
