Good one! But maybe you should also accept something like "imperialism in africa" or "partitioning of africa" for 16.

Have added a few more options for #15. Let me know if other alternatives are required! Thanks.

I tried "africa", "colonization of africa", etc., nothing worked. Also, tried a couple variations on "slavery" for #1 and didn't get it. You might specify where slavery was abolished - in US it wasn't until 1865, Brazil 1880-something. Also tried "railroad" for #8 - Stephenson's Rocket isn't known so well on this side of the pond.

@csjoholm: Thanks for your suggestions. You were close - it accepts 'colonialism', but I've added colonization in case others try that also. I've added a little more detail on the slavery answer too. Tried to be fair on the rocket thing, it takes locomotive etc but not sure railroad would really apply.

Please accept "abolition."

Assassination of Lincoln, Lincoln, Booth tried but not accepted? I could believe just Lincoln should be enough, eh? Great quiz.
Apr 7th, 2010 at 16:10 GMT
@Trajan: Have added "assassination of Lincoln" and "assassination of President Lincoln", thanks for those suggestions.
@folio1701: Decided not to accept just "abolition", because the keyword is slavery. Abolition could refer to abolition of a monarchy or the death penalty, for example.

Really good quiz, makes a change from WW1/WW2 and ancient world! No problems with any of the answers

Had no problems with any of the answers - except that I didn't know all of them! Didn't know about Krakatoa or Stephenson's rocket, so I figure this was a highly enjoyable quiz and a learning experience. Thanks!

camera invented? invention of camera? camera?
Apr 21st, 2010 at 14:49 GMT
jefe_: The history of the camera goes much further back than the 19th century, but it was the photographic process that was invented in the 19th century as a means of preserving the images from the camera. A bit odd, I know, that you would have a camera for hundreds of years and not be able to produce anything, but I guess one has to come before the other.

Very fine quiz. For x-rays, despite the obvious answer, I first typed
. You might consider accepting that or the diacritical spelling

"Just say slavery." "Slavery it is, sir!"

Maybe add "Berlin Conference" for #15?
Oct 27th, 2011 at 23:25 GMT
For 12, you need to accept MANY more variations. I kept trying "Lincoln's assassination" and "Assassination of Lincoln," but it never worked.

"Scramble" for Africa is just wrong.
