Cool idea, but I would say it ruins the point if you're going to give us the name of the book. Otherwise, it would be a really fun quiz.
Jan 10th, 2010 at 18:53 GMT
Do you think it would be too difficult if I just had pictures and no other hints? What if people don't know what the movies are?
Jan 10th, 2010 at 19:03 GMT
Right I get that, but it just seems redundant to have the pictures if you're going to have the name of the book. Then it's simply just a name the author based on the book quiz. Maybe you make it just name the book-to-movie adaption based on the picture? I dunno, this is just my opinion, I could be really off base. Don't change anything until you get more feedback.
Jan 10th, 2010 at 19:25 GMT
If you're going to give the name of anything, it should be the name of the movie. The way it is right now it might as well not be a movie quiz at all. I think it'd be fine with no hint other than the picture (I'd suck at it, but I suck at movie quizzes in general so that's no argument against anything).
Jan 10th, 2010 at 19:52 GMT
I agree with Saulmeister. It should be one or the other.
Jan 10th, 2010 at 20:10 GMT
I would take away the titles. challenging is never bad on sporcle.
Jan 10th, 2010 at 20:34 GMT
Thanks for the feedback guys. I've moved the book titles over to the movie column so they don't appear until you've got an answer correct.

5/5. Well, 4/5 out of five because you lost half a point for making me trying to spell "Palahniuk", but I'm rounding it up. Not having seen it with the titles, I'd say it's a really good level of difficulty; I recognized most of the movies (and the ones I didn't, having the title wouldn't have helped--well, American Psycho, I guess, but not otherwise).

Excellent quiz. It combines my three loves; Books, Movies, and being a nerd.

This is just a beautiful selection of movies.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 04:43 GMT
I learned three important things from this quiz: I watch too many movies, I read too few books, and I will never learn how to properly spell Palahniuk.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 04:46 GMT
Once again, a beautiful picture quiz by lupin. I wish there could be a way to display the name of the movie/book too, just to be thorough.

Well, I know movies, but I don't know books, so this was a little bit of a mixed game for me!
Jan 16th, 2010 at 05:03 GMT
It'd be nice if the title of the book/movie would come up with the author, I think. But great quiz!
Jan 16th, 2010 at 05:28 GMT
Movies / Books:
Row 1: Jaws / A Clockwork Orange / 1984 / American Psycho / A Scanner Darkly
Row 2: Apocalypse Now (based on Heart Of Darkness) / Breakfast At Tiffany's / catch-22 / Fight Club / The Exorcist
Row 3: Matilda / The Da Vinci Code / The Godfather / The Great Escape / The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Row 4: Lord of the Rings trilogy / L.A. Confidential / The Lovely Bones / Jurassic Park / Interview With The Vampire
Row 5: The Hunt For Red October / The Silence of the Lambs / Alice In Wonderland (based on characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) / The Shawshank Redemption (based on Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, from the collection Different Seasons) / Lolita
Hope that helps.

I would like to thank Don't Stand So Close to Me for my knowing Nabokov.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 06:42 GMT
Thanks rockgolf, I couldn't figure out a few of the titles. Kept looking at American Psycho knowing that I knew it, but not being able to place it. Didn't know the authors name any way, as it turned out. Thanks for the help.

I love this idea for a quiz! Requires a little extra thinking... identify the movie, then think of the book, then the author.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 07:09 GMT
Two quizzes in one! Fantastic! I'm the opposite of MovieDynamic - I would have got more right had I recognized all the movies.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 07:15 GMT
Great idea for a quiz, well done.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 07:54 GMT
Obviously ^^ there have been a lot of modifications made to this, but as of early 1/16 this quiz is PERFECT. I had read 10 of the books, could ID 23 of the movies, and got 17 correct answers. Brilliant effing quiz.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 09:07 GMT
Truman Capote wrote Breakfeast at Tiffany's? Never would have guessed that.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 09:08 GMT
Nice quiz, good selection. Surprising results too!

Also, isn't Apocalypse Now a bit of a stretch for Conrad?
Jan 16th, 2010 at 09:39 GMT
nice quiz - but the name of the author of fight club is my kyrgyzstan on this quiz.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 10:02 GMT
You learn something new every day...I never knew that Jaws was based on a book!
Jan 16th, 2010 at 11:36 GMT
I typed JR (starting Tolkein) and it gave me Tom Clancy?
Jan 16th, 2010 at 12:02 GMT
^ Yeah, same thing happened to me. Not sure why? I knew Clancy anyway, as it happened, but I wasn't expecting it to come up by accident.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 13:46 GMT
same thing happened to me, which kinda skews the results cause i was never going to get that one otherwise. couldnt spell palahniuk
Jan 16th, 2010 at 13:49 GMT
I'd almost argue that it should accept Ibsen for Jaws, since Benchley's novel is pretty unabashedly based on his An Enemy of the People, but then I'd just be pretentious. Great quiz.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 13:55 GMT
I just spent at least 2 minutes wondering why the Johnny Depp picture wasn't accepting the author of Willy Wonka....
Jan 16th, 2010 at 14:16 GMT
Is it sad that I typed Robert Pirsig for The Great Escape?
Jan 16th, 2010 at 14:55 GMT
I'm surprised this quiz included a movie that hasn't been released yet (Alice in Wonderland). Isn't that against Sporcle policy?
Jan 16th, 2010 at 15:14 GMT
@LTH I agree, not really fair.. I forgot what upcoming movie that was from.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 15:57 GMT
I second 'Apocalypse Now' being something of a stretch for this quiz. Especially because the image provided, American soldiers, is an element of the story that cannot be credited to Conrad. Good quiz otherwise.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 16:56 GMT
I started typing "Anderson" for no apparent reason and it gave me "Paul Brickhill". Whassup?
Jan 16th, 2010 at 17:42 GMT
i wish it accepted "chuck p"
Jan 16th, 2010 at 17:49 GMT
Wonderful quiz, great content. Begging for a sequel.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 18:41 GMT
I too got Brickhill without typing it-- no way I would have guess him.
Jan 16th, 2010 at 19:22 GMT
Lovely Bones hasn't come out yet, that just looks like a picture of some girl.
