I'll admit, this went right over my head at first glance. But after giving up and seeing the answers, I started to understand. Really cool stuff, and it makes for a great quiz. Only problem is of course the scrolling. Usually you're pretty good at sizing the picture right, so maybe you could tinker with the size a bit? Otherwise, solid job, and great picture quiz as always.

Cheers Saulmeister. I love this guys posters, I first saw them a while ago on the Guardian news website and thought they'd make a cool looking picture quiz. Only thing with the size is that they are posters. I normally have square images so that keeps the overall image alot shorter. I didn't wanna ruin them though by cutting them into squares. I think as there's 25 of them, even if I did make them a little smaller, there'd still be scrolling. Just something you gotta live with on my pictures quizzes I'm afraid!
May 5th, 2010 at 23:02 GMT
It actually just crossed my mind now that they are posters, and should not be resized. These picture quizzes are as much as an art form as the posters themselves, so I wouldn't feel right convincing you to cut them into squares just for my convenience. You've gotta keep some artistic integrity;)

Does that mean I win?
May 6th, 2010 at 00:43 GMT
Really fun quiz, a couple extra minutes would be nice.
May 6th, 2010 at 01:05 GMT
@DragonNo4: I've actually added a couple more minutes than I normally would have for a picture quiz. However, if anyone else agrees that there should be extra time, please mark up the above comment.

First off, I don't think "The Sopranos" should be classified as a "Family Drama". "7th Heaven" was a "Family Drama"- "The Sopranos" was a "Crime Drama". Second, I agree that a one or two more minutes would be nice, considering how... "psychological" is the best word I can come up with... this game is.
Now, with that nitpicking out of the way, I love the idea of this quiz. However, it was INCREDIBLY hard. I got exactly FOUR from looking at the pictures, four more from seeing the genre/dates and thinking it could only be a certain show, and two more from random guessing of shows. Even after seeing the answers, I STILL don't get a few of them. Why, for example, is "Scrubs" (a show I've watched pretty much religiously for years) #8? What does it represent? I don't watch "Mad Men" (I know, I know, I
), but with that said, I couldn't explain why #2 is "Mad Men" if you forced me to at gunpoint.
May 6th, 2010 at 06:03 GMT
Mad Men I am guessing because it is some sort of whiskey drink that the characters on the show would imbibe...This quiz was so over my head, but after looking at the answers I LOVE IT...
May 6th, 2010 at 14:55 GMT
@Kicking222: Wow you sound kind of disturbed by this quiz. I wouldn't worry about it too much, I am aware of how difficult it is - even with the hints. I keep forgetting when I first saw them, they had the TV show names on them so you can actually appreciate the design more.
Now, I've added an extra minute which I think should be plenty, but I will add more if people think it necessary.
I would classify The Sopranos as a family drama, as well as a crime drama but I don't know which one fits best. Family crime drama perhaps?
The Scrubs one, well I just assumed it was all their different colour uniforms, or scrubs that they wear. I'm probably wrong though. And I second Etheridge2 on the Mad Men-whiskey glass.
May 6th, 2010 at 15:12 GMT
Whoa, this was VERY hard but I gotta say these posters are awesome. REally cool idea.
May 6th, 2010 at 21:08 GMT
Charlie's Angels is my favorite. I admit to not still not understanding Home Improvement or Magnum P.I. despite seeing the answers.
May 7th, 2010 at 05:10 GMT
Oh, *whiskey*. That makes sense for Mad Men. Scrubs (which I also didn't get) is exactly what Lupin said, I think.
Home Improvement is the picket fence that featured prominently in the show, because Tim Allen was always talking to Wilson on the other side of it. (I assume. I got that, even though I've never seen the show, because I knew about the fence, so I think it must have been a common thing.)
May 7th, 2010 at 08:04 GMT
Oh, it's a FENCE. I thought it was three skinny, fancy-looking pillars. Either that or two identical faces about to kiss. Oh, and I watched the Magnum PI intro on youtube and apparently he had that exact design on his helicopter. I thought it was just a show about a guy who wears Hawaiian shirts.
May 7th, 2010 at 08:07 GMT
PS: Great, great quiz. The years and genres give just enough clues to make figuring out the pictures superfun.
May 8th, 2010 at 00:50 GMT
@tedthefed: I thought it was one of those changing walls that people go behind to... hide their naughty bits. Had I seen the fence, I would've gotten the answer, but of course, the poster as-is fits in perfectly with the overall aesthetic.

As these are his images, and he doesn't have a login, thought I better add Albert's comments on this (hope you don't mind Albert) from an email he sent:
now, after read some of the comments, all i can say is, that the poster only make sense if people have seen the show. plus they are all my personal point of view. nothing more, nothing less. so this makes the whole thing a bit trickier. e.g. scrubs represents the colors of the clothes they wear. mad men is a glas of whiskey. and so on ... unfortunately you have to be logged in to post a comment, otherwise i would have done it already. but it's fun to see that people seem to enjoy this game.

I've seen these posters before, so I may have had a bit of a leg up on some. That said, I would have liked to have seen the red/grey tennis ball poster from House, the drop of blood on a slide poster from Dexter, the MacGyver paperclip and the Firefly engine representation, as I like those shows better than some of the ones chosen for the quiz, but otherwise, excellent job.
May 30th, 2010 at 14:20 GMT
After looking these over with the answers, and putting my head together with a friend to find out the ones we don't know, I can safely say I understand these. There are some of his other ones, however, that I love, like the 30 Rock one, but I also love the Mad Men one and the Sex and the City.

I think this is my favourite quiz on the site. Great selection of shows, too. RE: The Sopranos, it is about family, but "family drama" almost implies to the reader that it's suitable for children, which just throws you off. Crime drama is most accurate.

This is what I'd call a one-way quiz. You see the answer, and (at least most of the time) you can say to yourself "oh, yes, I guess I can see how they got that". But if you are just shown the posters, you probably can't figure these out at all. #4 could just be Charlie Brown's shirt, or Twin Peaks. #8 could be Will & Grace (with the pink circle represent Will). #14 looks like an airvent, not a speaker. #15 could be Picket Fences. If #12 is supposed to be a Hawaiian shirt, well, I've never seen those colors on one. I thought #21 was "Murder She Wrote" upside down.
Aug 17th, 2011 at 16:54 GMT
i'm not knocking it, but even after i see the answers i still don't get the connection on some of them. interesting art though.
Aug 17th, 2011 at 18:03 GMT
@rockgolf It's not a Hawaiian shirt - it's TC's chopper.
Aug 18th, 2011 at 04:10 GMT
Does anyone understand The Sopranos one? Definitely a tough quiz, but pretty fun!
Aug 18th, 2011 at 04:53 GMT
The air dates of some of a couple of the shows on this quiz need to be updated: Heroes is no longer on the air and neither is Scrubs (so the '?' isn't necessary and it ended up ending in 2010).
Aug 18th, 2011 at 13:47 GMT
@Austentatious: ok done, ta.
Aug 20th, 2011 at 22:55 GMT
This is awesome. Most of them went completely over my head but once I saw the answers, of course they all made perfect sense. Wonderful stuff.
Aug 22nd, 2011 at 20:23 GMT
@trival: Not sure, but I think The Sopranos' poster might be a tablecloth in an Italian restuarant. A lot of Italian restaurants used to use red & white. Though I've never seen The Sopranos, so I'm not sure if that really fits the show, and it's totally a guess. :) @rockgolf: I still hadn't figured out what that was in the Charlie's Angels poster, but I think you're right - it's the speaker box. :)
