Please let me know if there are any glaring errors. Also, do you think this should be an answer in order type quiz to avoid scattershot naming of ancient civilisations?

I like it the way it is, but I would add the present-day country or region where that civilation was. Some of them are obvious, but others I have never heard of.

@imclala: I thought about adding modern states, but it doesn't really work. For a start, this is about ancient cultures, and secondly, some of them overlap. For example, I don't want to give three answers for typing "Iraq", because that doesn't make sense here.

I agree with that it should be an "answer in order" quiz.

I think theh quiz is fine as is even if there's some easy gimmies like Aztec, Incan and Mayan.

I don't understand how it wouldn't accept my answers of 'Eskimo', 'Inuit', or 'totem pole'.

Needs to be "answer in order" as otherwise people can just guess ancient civilizations without needing to know anything. I also think it would be good to require slightly more specific answers - "Native American" seems far too broad an answer to accept for what in reality are a vast array of cultures with many kinds of art. (After all, you don't accept "Mesopotamian" for the various Mesopotamian cultures featured here.) Likewise "Indian" for Harappan (the history of Indian art is far too complicated for that). Also, please accept "Discus thrower" or "Discobolus."

Kryptos, that would be because Tlingit =/= Inuit. Totem pole should have worked though.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I'm considering forcing answers in order, but would prefer some more votes before I go ahead and change it...
@Kryptos18, RebeccaAMax: The quiz asks for the civilisation, not the object shown. By your logic I'd have to accept 'coin' and 'rock painting'. @RebeccaAMax: As you stated, 'Native American' does cover a broad range of cultures. I thought it best just to name the Tlingit, whilst also accepting a broader answer to make the quiz playable.

But you accept "terra cotta" and "Code of Hammurabi." And - so does that mean "Mesopotamian" or "Middle Eastern" will be acceptable for all those Mesopotamian cultures? ;)

@RebeccaAMax: I'm guessing you like your ancient history? Okay, I've deleted those two (I'd omitted the other object answers earlier but guess I missed them). I don't wanna give 'Mesopotamia' for the same reason I wouldn't add 'Mesoamerica', for example - it covers more than one of the civilisations. Credit for being thorough though :)

I definitely vote for answer in order and would suggest that if you do you add a minute or to - the fun derived from this quiz has very little to do with racing against the clock anyway. Minor to be sure but for consistency I believe Polynesia should work for Polynesian and I am definitely unsure about this but my thought was that Muslim should work for Islam. Thanks for yet another great quiz.

I definitely think it should be an answer in order quiz, so you should add a bit more time. I also think "Australia" or "Australian" should work for the Australian aborigine culture.

lupin: glad you required the answers in order - it's more challenging, but also more meaningful and educational that way. Really thoughtful & well-executed quiz.

@AdmiralMaxtreme: The Forbidden City was built in 1406, but the Terracotta Army was created in 210-209 BC. As there's such a huge gap, I dont see how Forbidden City is relevant to the dynasty represented here.

Really great quiz, but can you accept Songhai for Mali Empire? Songhai would actually be a more correct name anyway - even if not it should be Malinese, not Mali. Still, great quiz, I really loved it. 5 stars.

Neat quiz. Not to be pedantic, but the mosaic from Dermech that you're using for the Carthage picture dates to the 4th c. CE, a good 500 years after the city's destruction and loss of independence...

If you're accepting "people, culture, or civilisation" then shouldn't "Chinese" be accepted for the Terracotta army?

Sorry, but I think the clues for this quiz are too vague. The level of specificity required for a correct answer is hardly self-evident. Also, for "discus thrower", I entered "discobolus" - the actual name of the sculpture and was not credited with a correct answer. ??????

Umm, the question says 'Can you name the people, culture or civilization from the objects pictured?' Discobolus is the name of the statue, but it's not the name of a people, culture or civilization, which is what the quiz is asking about.

BCE isn't nonsense, it's becoming standard practice in academic circles throughout the English speaking world. I actually really liked this quiz though I got stumped on a lot of the answers...

Why is it when I typed Vikiking, it wasn't accepted. Do I need to pluralize it, or did I somehow screw up?

There were lots of these that I knew, but I couldn't get the answer with the keywords I used like "sumerian" or "cuneiform" (which is the writing used on that tablet). Overall, though, still a great quiz!

I enjoyed reading these comments, especially the people furthest up who didn't understand the object of the quiz. "I entered 'discobolus' - the actual name of the sculpture and was not credited with a correct answer. ??????" I love the righteous indignation. Great quiz. Hard is good. Not every quiz should be tailored to the masses. (Missed Hammurabi and the Astrolabe)
