I see you have Nova Scotia as a bonus—perhaps also Novosibirsk and Nuevo Laredo?

could you accept Newfoundland & Labrador, or Newfoundland Labrador? Non-Canadians, the few that know the real name of The Rock (and really, who could blame you if you don't) may not know the OFFICIAL name includes "and" as a word.

New Hebrides should be a bonus as it was the name of Vanuatu between 1906-1980 (as a French/British pandemonium.....er Condomiun)

I presume you mean Newport, Gwent, UK as there are 13 locations called Newport in the UK?

@zifyoip - Added. Thanks! @NYCub - Corrected, thanks for pointing that out. @pippin and @Roman - New Ireland added, and New Hebrides as a bonus. @lhm - Done. @javonzir - A little clarification added. Thanks.

Papua New Guinea is a bonus because it doesn't start with "new".

I think you should accept Newfoundland for NFL&Labrador. It's colloquial but it's pretty common.

@hawksdd - It doesn't start with "New" but I wanted to give people some credit for trying. @Stewart - Thanks, I'm not sure where my number came from. @Kahlvin - Why'd they change it? I can't say. @PandaTinker - Done. @pennyfarthing2 - New Georgia isn't populous enough to make it on here. The whole Western Province is only about 60,000 people.

Newport, Gwent, UK is inconsistent with the others. If you need to differentiate between other Newports in the UK, adding the constituency country for all of the UK cities would work. It looks weird to have "Newport, Gwent, UK" with no Wales in there.

It might be fun to see (in a third column) what these places were named after (or where the namesakes are). That might ruin the formatting though...

I'm pretty certain that the Population of New Delhi, India is not 295,000. Probably closer to about 18,000,000

^^@packstack You are probably thinking of Delhi which has a much larger population (around 12,000,000) than New Delhi.

Argh, almost completely whiffed on the one-word answers. As someone who grew up 15 miles from Newark NJ, and got the New York and New Jersey answers, how is this possible? I was just blindered by the multi-word answers I had gotten in the "New X" format. face-palm.

I typed in Newton kinda hoping against hope that Sir Isaac Newton got a town named after him... guess not. Also kind of surprised that not more people didnt get New Orleans. Good thinking in making Nova Scotia a bonus!

Novaya Zemlya, a very large island, should be included. (New Land in English.) Which brings up the issue of only English place names, although I was happy to see that Nova Scotia and Novosibirsk were bonuses. But I am sure there are many other place names that include New in their native languages, which if translated, would be in this list.
