	@falcon427: I have to disagree with you. I do not think that the Sorting Hat is a character. It's rather hard to know where to draw the line with the Harry Potter series, however. Great quiz!

	I think if you're going to include Hedwig and Crookshanks, then it's certainly acceptable to include the sorting hat. At least it has lines!

	Alright, people seem to be agreeing with the Sorting Hat comment. I'll give it another day or two and see if more of you agree, (by voting up the comment made by falcon427), then I will kick out the Sorting Hat and put in the next character. If more of you agree with the comment made by kenmorebrian (above) then vote his comment up, and I'll leave the quiz as it is. I'm glad you're all enjoying! And thanks for the Curator Pick!

	Re the Sorting Hat: After mulling it over, what I think is that the Hat is not a character, but, rather, a magical object. If the Hat is a character, why not the Sword of Gryffindor? Although the Hat has lines, and Hedwig and Crookshanks do not, the Hat can act only on command of a wizard, whereas the animals, although incapable of speech, can and do act independently in ways that affect the events of the story.

	@Arkturus; yes, Ginny tells James (Sirius) to give Neville their love, to which James tells her he can't just walk into Herbology and give his Professor "love." But, as I counted each character back through the pages, this scene did not make the cut. If you notice, Hermione isn't even in the last ten characters of the Deathly Hallows.

	There seems to be a little bit of confusion about the Sorting Hat. Look at this link to make you minds up: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Sorting_Hat In my opinion I don't think it is a character as 'The Sorting Hat is a sentient Hogwarts artifact'. Also other than house elves no characters are owned by other people, the Sorting hats owner being- Godric Gryffindor.

	I would counter that by saying that Hedwig was "owned" by Harry. (Although it's true that the "ownership" of Crookshanks might be more questionable!) In which case they are either all there or none of them are. (I enjoyed this a lot - and was surprised to see the ones I missed, even if one of them was this contentious one.)

	Alright, it's pretty close: Falcon427 and Kenmorebrian are only one apart, and Falcon's comment was actually made a few days before Kenmore's, giving him more time to have people agree. Though, I feel that askf's comment has become the tiebreaker. Her comment was voted up six times, reiterating Falcon427's point. Therefore, I'll be moving the Sorting Hat to a bonus answer and putting in the next character listed. Thanks everyone for their participation and enjoying the quiz!

	In my opinion, the Sorting Hat is in the same category as the snitch and the bludgers, although it's sentient to a certain extent, it isn't actually a living being (or a ghost) so I don't think it should be classed as a character

	I'm curious if they are listed in the order they are mentioned (so the bottom character is the last mentioned) or vice versa or neither. If you could make that clear in the description that'd be nice! Good quiz.

	The people at the top of each list are the people mentioned first, if you were to read the book backwards. So, in the Deathly Hallows, the last person mentioned before the book ends is Harry, then Ginny and so on.

	@historyobsession; no, he isn't. This quiz is in literature section, not the movies. I've checked and the people listed are the last 10 characters mentioned in the Half-Blood Prince (book).
