| Unfortunately for baseball purists (such as myself..), cheating has always been a part of baseball. There is no difference between those players being chastised in this forum and others throughout history who have always found a way to grab that competitive edge. Perhaps it's the nature of nostalgia, but it seems like fans are quick to forget the penchant for cheating held by guys like Gaylord Perry and Whitey Ford (notorious for scoffing baseballs) or Ty Cobb (feared by players for sharpening his spikes amongst countless other baseball crimes). Cheating, including steroid use, is absolutely deplorable and should never be allowed, but it's just another similar story in the long history of cheating that likely dates back to Abner Doubleday's era.
