| I knew Van Haltren. He’s one of those names that you see at the top of various stats lists –and that stands out as one of the only non-Hall-of-Famers or other well known players not yet voted in or even eligible. Thus, I happened to think of him early on and typed in his name before those of many bona fide Cooperstown-ers. But when nothing happened, I checked my spelling, tried to misspell the name a few ways—but was then successful when I typed in just ‘Haltren’ (i.e., the kind of mistake that someone might make, thinking perhaps that ‘Van’ is his middle name). In short, here’s a mistake that should be fixed.
And I have no problem with Anson considered a bonus answer: Some sources, even after all the record auditing of recent decades, still see him as having just 2995 total hits. |
