needs a lot of work but good idea. accept austria-hungary. accept germany, russia for russian empire. morocco isn't in europe. also accept uk and united kingdom for great britain. Maybe even turkey for ottoman empire, but not necessary. Liked the quiz. Very challenging

It's more like the "sides" of the great war than european countries. San Marino and The Vatican were nations at the time for instance. A little bit of work needed but a good quiz

man nice idea, but you need so much work for making this acceptable.

'Great Britain' ceased to exist as a country in 1801; Morocco has never been in Europe; where are Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino, vatican, Liechtenstein etc?
Feb 25th, 2010 at 11:49 GMT
Totally screwed with the names. BTW, there was NO Vatican in 1914, it existed legally from 1929 onwards, between 1870 and 1929 it was incorporated in Italy.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 11:50 GMT
good idea, but in addition to the countries above that were missing, Montenegro was also an independent country in 1914 as was the Kingdom of Serbia.

ireland was 1917 i think and not sure if iceland was it's own country then either. Serbia is already on there DJ. But yes this quiz coulda been sweet. still can be. just needs work
Feb 25th, 2010 at 13:28 GMT
The title is miss-leading.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 14:39 GMT
There are lots missing here. In addition to the above, San Marino. You need to accept alternative answers for many of them, such as Russia for Russian Empire, Austro-Hungary, Germany, and so forth. There has never been such a country as 'Great Britain', it's the United Kingdom, and has been since 1707. Also, this quiz has been made several times before in both the geography and history sections. I think it may even have been published.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 15:19 GMT
Good idea, poor execution.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 16:44 GMT
Seriously? Were you even trying?
Feb 25th, 2010 at 17:59 GMT
UK is 'the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland'. between 1801 and 1922 it was just 'united kingdom of great britain and ireland'. So Ireland shouldnt be there no.

It's very helpful if you read your comments! They can help you improve your quiz!
Feb 25th, 2010 at 19:46 GMT
Come on! This is such a poor quiz! ACCEPT AUSTRIA HUNGARY FOR THE AUSTRIA-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE!!!!! ACCEPT UK FOR GREAT BRITAIN!!!!! ACCEPT GERMANY FOR GERMAN EMPIRE!!!!!!!SINCE WHEN WAS MOROCCO EUROPEAN????!!!!!?????? Also there are many countries that my fellow commentors have pointed out that existed back in 1914 such as San Marino, Belgium, Ireland and others! If you read your comments it might help just as "willwo" said (please excuse the inverted commas)PLEASE EDIT THIS QUIZ A.S.A.P.! You had a good idea.....don't screw it up!

This is def already a quiz wow you basically suck...so much wrong with this
Feb 25th, 2010 at 22:25 GMT
I quit when it wouldn't take Belgium.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 23:08 GMT
lots wrong - in the link, it includes montenegro. I think it is correc tthat iceland is not there, and ireland as well, but several others should be there as mentioned before. And deinitely need to accept Austria-Hungary, Germany, Russiam etc.
Feb 25th, 2010 at 23:10 GMT
Great Britain isn't a country. Belgium?
Feb 26th, 2010 at 00:29 GMT
Since this creator doesn't seem to know: Neutral: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Liechtenstein, and San Marino Central: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Ottoman Empire Allied: United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Romania, Russia, and Andorra (an interesting story, Andorra declared war on Imperial Germany, but did not fight and was not included in the Treaty of Versailles, so hostilities technically lasted until 1957, per Wikipedia!) Not yet countries: Ireland, Iceland, Cyprus, Vatican City Did I miss any? And technically, this was not the state of affairs in 1914, since some European powers did not declare war until 1915 and Greece not until 1917.
Feb 26th, 2010 at 00:51 GMT
So many wrong. Kennyb has the right idea.
Feb 26th, 2010 at 01:05 GMT
No, seriously, Morocco? Hahaha, are you kidding?
Feb 26th, 2010 at 01:53 GMT
@kennyb - you've forgotten Monaco, which was neutral, I believe. Also, I'm not sure Albania can be described as an Allied power - it basically had no effective central government for the extent of the war, and was mostly occupied by Austria-Hungary for much of it.
Feb 26th, 2010 at 01:55 GMT
um...MONTENEGRO???!!!??? single-handedly won world war I for the Allies! what were you thinking?!?
Feb 26th, 2010 at 04:09 GMT
they also forgot Algeria, Tunisia and Pluto (well.. if they're accepting Morocco)
Feb 26th, 2010 at 14:56 GMT
Just swung by to add my voice to the chorus of disapproval. ;)
Feb 26th, 2010 at 15:30 GMT
Actually, Liechtenstein was NOT a neutral power during WWI. It was because of World War I that Liechtenstein changed their quasi-monetary-Union from one with Austria to one with Switzerland. Prior to World War I the foreign policy of Austria also covered Liechtenstein, now it is tied to Switzerland (for instance, Liechtenstein did not join the UN until Switzerland did, etc)
Feb 27th, 2010 at 01:28 GMT
umm. . . . morocco's in AFRICA.
Mar 2nd, 2010 at 21:49 GMT
I don't even know where to start. There is so much wrong with this. My gosh. Please pick a better source, and then actually READ IT!

It is slightly amusing that this quiz, though being worthless, is one of the most played this week.
Mar 3rd, 2010 at 20:54 GMT
I agree nyo, I saw it as the most played, thought hmm, that looks fun and started typing... russia - funny, that doesnt work; germany - mmm really, maybe it wasnt unified yet? ; prussia?? - nope; UK... - did I click the right quiz? sad. times.

Iceland didn't gain independence from Denmark until 1944, when they voted themselves out of Denmark. They didn't like the Nazis, nor the Danes.
Dec 20th, 2010 at 00:40 GMT
Morocco is not in Europe and Belgium is.
Jan 23rd, 2011 at 03:44 GMT
This is awful. As been said many times already-- Morocco is not in Europe. Maybe Monaco was meant (since that is missing)? Also missing: BELGIUM, MONTENEGRO, Andorra, Liechtenstein, San Marino. So many alternate names/ spellings need to be accepted as well. There's been more than enough time for these items to have been fixed by now.
