| People need to learn how to spell judgment. |

| I'm betting that's not what's stopping people from guessing a 1961 movie. Great quiz, though! |

| godfather ii, godfather two, godfather 2, godfather part two, godfather part 2 don't work |
 | rockgolf: | Jan 16th, 2010 at 06:16 GMT | | -4 points |
| @Tahnan: True. I kept spelling it "Nurenburg". |

| "Sunset Blvd" works but not "Kramer v. Kramer"!? However, it's a fun quiz and there is enough time to play around with things like spelling, which was appreciated. It's amazing how memorable these films are (if you've seen them). |

| It just doesn't happen as often these days, which is a damn shame. Now they'd rather spread the wealth than give truly deserving, multiple performances in a single film nominations. |

| Just think, a film hasn't represented in every acting category since "Reds" in 1981. It's about time that happened again! |

| Oh and nice quiz. Got 31/35, which is good but I'm surprised I didn't do better. Also, it's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? with a question mark. There's a place called IMDb you can consult for this stuff. |

| I always do horribly at movie quizzes, but I still enjoy the classics.
Sunset Boulevard is a movie I want to add to my list of movies I've seen. |

| Some really great films here. Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? maybe the best acting by 4 actors in any film ever one of my favorites. |
 | BlueEyedAlien: | Jul 14th, 2010 at 05:16 GMT | | 0 points |
| I've seen every film on the list, but I always thought it was "Gentlemen's Agreement". Good quiz. |

| Joyce Redman is misspelled the second time she comes up, but not the first. |

| Vote me down for this, but I actually haven't seen ANY of these. Didn't do too badly though. Good quiz. |

| Peyton Place for good acting!!? great idea for a quiz. |

| Congratulations, loserboy, you may have been the first person in Sporcle history to elicit a non-negative comment on the quality of a movie quiz. They said it couldn't be done... |

| @BlueEyedAlien - There was a movie called Gentlemen's Agreement - it starred Vivian Leigh - but the movie about anti-Semitism that won Best Picture was Gentleman's Agreement. |

| Great quiz. The fact that only 2 are from the last 20 years, IMO, says something about the overall quality of the movies nowadays.
On the quiz, I was typing Chicago when time ran out. I also couldn't remember The Defiant Ones for the life of me. I knew what movie the quiz was asking for. But I drew a blank on the title. I also wasted time trying the wrong answer multiple times on the first one. But I still got 27 and couldn't have done much better with more time. |

| Why on earth would spreading the nominations out over _more_ movies be a sign for declining overall quality? (Which, I take it, you meant.) Great quiz! |
 | ZapRowsdower: | Jul 14th, 2010 at 15:15 GMT | | 8 points |
| Clearly most people do NOT "Remember Mama"! |

| I love Oscar quizzes, since I'm a movie addict. Great quiz! Gimme more! lol |

| That was tough. I'm surprised how many films with 4 or more acting nominations didn't win (and in some cases even get nominated for!) Best Picture. I'm glad I finally remembered how to spell Virginia Wolf, Wolfe, Wolff, Woolf! |

| William Powell wasn't nominated for My Man Godfrey in 1936; he was nominated for The Great Ziegfeld. Great quiz, though!! |
 | bug: | Jul 14th, 2010 at 20:59 GMT | | -3 points |
| I think the reason that there are more older films is that there are a greater number of new releases now. For instance, in 1936 My Man Godfrey was probably not competing with as many movies as Chicago was in '02. |

| Streetcar Named Desire is the greatest acted film ever, plus one of the greatest films ever. Should've swept Picture/Director/all the acting awards. |
 | jtmaxwell: | Jul 14th, 2010 at 23:26 GMT | | -2 points |
| the presence of Vivien Leigh in so many nominations is a travesty against God, man and Uta Hagen. ;) |

| I saw Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and immediately thought "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", but didn't guess it because I didn't see Sidney Poitier. He was just so good. |
 | DanTravers: | Jul 15th, 2010 at 20:16 GMT | | 1 point |
| yrralh is wrong. Powell was nominated for My Man Godfrey. The Great Ziegfeld won Best Picture, bu Luise Rainer was the only actor to be nominated (and win) for that film. |
 | DanTravers: | Jul 15th, 2010 at 20:17 GMT | | 3 points |
| And bug, there were actually a lot more movies made by Hollywood in those days, they just weren't as widely distributed as they are today. |

 | JakeA: | Feb 19th, 2011 at 23:12 GMT | | 0 points |
| I got them all except "I Remember Mama"...which I clearly did not remember. It's also one of the few on this list that doesn't turn up on cable |
 | ScaryKlown: | Feb 25th, 2011 at 02:03 GMT | | 0 points |
| Then there's one of the great horror film title ripoffs, "I Dismember Mama" |

| Great quiz. I agree with the statements floating around that there need to be more films like these. However, the last film to do so, Doubt, wasn't even nominated for Best Picture. I guess it would have if the Academy switched to ten nominees that year. |
