| Regarding Australia - The two sides of the argument of whether it can be considered an island nation are as follows. For - all landmasses are surrounded by water and by that definition can be considered islands, Australia has no borders and in this way fits the profile for an island nation. Against - there are between 4 and 7 continental landmasses (depending on how you split Afro-Eurasia and the Americas) of which the Australian mainland is always counted as a continent, since Australia has territory on a continental landmass it cannot be considered an island nation. I think including Australia as a bonus answer would be a good compromise. Sorry for the essay. |
