| My guess is that some of these are actually sporcle contributor misspellings, not misguided parental choices. I find it hard to believe that Canadians have all-of-a-sudden decided as a group that Abigail doesn't work for them and that two b's are preferred. Same is true for Isabella, Hayley and a couple of others. Choice is fine, like Rachael (blame the overly-perky chef for that one), and French influence may account for some differences, but for an entire culture to uniformly spell something in a new way is bizarre. |
