"Bicycle Thieves" should work for the 1947 movie.

Aside from only need four minutes instead of ten, this is a pretty excellent quiz. I was rather proud of myself for getting nine (at least, in that I've only seen one of the six I missed).

Agree with kicking222 that the time should be shortened, and that it's an excellent quiz. My preference as a user for a quiz of this type would be if the instructions made some mention of what TCM claims their criteria were. That might help the sporcler reason out the answers in less than 10 mins. As it was, I just answered for what I thought the most influential movies were in the years listed.

"This list of movies signifies films that TCM has deemed influential in the arena of film and the culture that produced them. These are not necessarily the most important films, nor representative of “firsts” in film history—these are the movies that shaped the cinema and the audiences that viewed them." -Quoted from tcm.com (I would love to put this or a shortened version of it above the quiz, but sporcle does not allow that yet.) For a more detailed description of why each movie was picked, click the source link.

Thanks for a fun one. I did better than I thought I would--thank you for providing the year, it helped with a couple of guesses. One thing I noticed after the fact is that Wikipedia and Netflix both list the year of release of the "The Bicycle Thief" as Nov. 1948, as does the TCM link if you click it all the through on their site. I suspect its an error on their part.

This was a nice quiz! But I suggest you include the original names of the films as answers and let the quiz accept the English translations (because they're more widely known than - say - the Finnish ones). For example, "Bronenosets Potyomkin" is the name of the movie and "Battleship Potemkin" is only a translation, like "Panssarilaiva Potemkin" (the Finnish equivalent).
