If they didn't sing, act or write a book, I've never heard of them. Sad commentary on how American-centric I am.

Great job. I'm disappointed I couldn't remember a few of these (and also disappointed by how high we Canadians voted some of these pop culture figures).

^Tecumseh is First Nations. His people technically lived mostly in what is now the USA, I think, but during the War of 1812 he allied with the British. He is considered a Canadian hero, certainly.

Mike Weir is pretty awful. He won the Masters and now every Canadian sports station has to report on him during the updates, but invariably they report that he failed to make the cut, or that he's 15 off the lead.

I agree with DougButcher when Shania Twain ranks higher than Bobby Orr & Neil Young you have to question the reliability of the source. Did they ask Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly to do the rankings for them?

This is what happens when the public is allowed to vote on a list like this. People vote based on current or recent celebrity status. You also end up with celebrities who moved away from Canada years ago with no intention of returning and, in some cases, have taken American citizenship. I'm interested in seeing a list like this compiled by actual historians. I'm sure they'd get rid of at least 40 of these within minutes.

Pamela Anderson is the 51st Greatest Canadian of all time? I'm assuming this was ironic, because the best parts of her were made right here in the U.S. But seriously, Lavigne over Candy? Twain over Shatner? Cherry over Gretzky? Hart over Aykroyd? Canadians, were you even trying?

I remember when my brother and I voted for this in 2004, we were both horrified a bunch of fifteen-year-olds would stuff the ballot box and Nickelback or Kardinal Offishall or someone would win. Perhaps worse than that? Avril Lavigne is ahead of Billy Bishop!
