What's the point? I recommend the opening-day Yankees quiz instead because any Red Sox player who is any good will just end up playing for New York.

Yeah, all those players of any relevance who went from the Sox to the Yanks... all... three... of them, only one of them directly.

Clemens, Wells, Schilling, Martinez...and Tom Gordon? the manager back in '97 must've owed flash a favor or something

Oh wait, four... in the ever intimidating presence of the year 2000 version of Jose Canseco. How did they EVER recover?

Easily shows why the Red Sox sucked in the 90's. I lived with a bunch of Yankees fans and it was rough actually thinking the Sox had a chance every year.

Four of their opening day starters are currently on the DL, the top three and starter Josh Beckett. Lowell and Varitek are also DL'ed.

Actually, 11 of these players also played for the Yankees: Johnny Damon, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Mark Bellhorn, Mike Stanley, Jose Canseco, David Wells, Tony Clark, Rey Sanchez, Tom Gordon, and Mark Whiten.

I said of relevance... and guys like Wells and Stanley played for the Yankees before the Sox which was my point. Cripes, half the league has probably been involved with one or the other.

Whenever there is a baseball quiz, Mark Bellhorn is always my first guess. I think this is the first time that it was actually an accepted answer. #12 on the field, #1 in my heart, Marky.

I remembered Bellhorn's 2005 home/road splits being ridiculous, so I looked them up (this is before he ended up on the Yankees): Home: 0.167 avg, 0.247 obp, 0.553 ops Away: 0.260 avg, 0.398 obp, 0.809 ops The Fenway Faithful turned on him because he struck out a third of the time and it got to him.

Feast or famine with Bellhorn. Indeed, he either struck out or walker and there wasnt much between. I actually dont feel bad not remembering Jay Payton.

@buzzdaddie, mostly true about Bellhorn, but don't forget he hit the most famous Pesky Pole home run in Sox history in Game 1 of the World Series that year.

Wow. I look back at these lineups and think: whatever happened to half these players? Like Troy O'Leary? Or Aaron Sele?

@TGL, that was John Kerry that called him Manny Ortez, Menino is known for his "Varitek kicking it through the uprights" comment lol.
