| Really great quiz, things like this are hard to come by but really enjoyable! Just out of interest are they from Scottish or Irish Gaelic, or both? I'm not sure about this but I think 'town' comes from the Gaelic word 'dun'...I'm reasonably certain about that as town is one of the oldest English words, and I think Edinburgh is "Dun Edainn" in Gaelic (sorry I don't speak Gaelic, I am just very interested in it and roughly know how to pronounce it) and the "dun" was replaced by the Saxon word "burh"=town or hillfort...also you can kinda see that "dun" has been corrupted into "town"...so you could put that on... |
