"Papa Was A Rolling Stone" did hit #1. John Denver had FOUR #1s: "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Annie's Song", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy", and I'm Sorry".

"McCartney" and "Paul McCartney" ought to be acceptable for Wings.
Apr 2nd, 2011 at 19:02 GMT
All corrections have been made; however, Paul McCartney will still not be acceptable for Wings. They are completely different artists. That's like saying Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones are the same.

"Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" wasn't a Wings #1; it was credited to Paul and Linda McCartney.

It is a common error that Calypso hit #1. If you look at the actual Hot 100 charts, you will see that it peaked at #2, while I'm Sorry peaked at #1.

Terrific quiz! I'm pissed at myself for a lot of the ones I missed, but not your fault. Was also a surprise to see some of the ones that did hit no. 1 and realize some of the ones that didn't.

I think the Staple Singers had two number ones as well, with "I'll Take You There" in 1972 and "Let's Do It Again" in 1975.
