 Eratic during the period but particulalrly bad in 1556
 Grew steadily - 2.1m in 1540 to 4m in 1600
 Under Henry VIII and Somerset against France and Scotland
 Usually for wars
 Not as widespread as first thought (2% of land) but caused problems locally
 Only really effected luxury goods not basic commodities
 More was available due to the Dissolution of the Monasteries but this created a rush to buy it causing higher demand
