| For some reason (perhaps the President's) the Director of National Intelligence isn't in the other Sporcle quiz, but the US Trade Rep, Chief of Staff, UN Ambassador, EPA Director and Budget Director are. It should probably also include the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, since the Cabinet's long since ballooned beyond any functional deliberative/executive size, since politicians promise a "Cabinet-level" agency to every interest group with any power, in a fashion described and predicted 50 years ago in Parkinson's Law (and my politics are very far from Prof. C. Northcote Parkinson's). Parkinson wrote at a time between the merger of Navy & War into Defense under Truman and the creation of Health, Education & Welfare under Ike, so Parkinson cited the U.S. as a country which had actually decreased its cabinet from 10 to an even-more-efficient 9, not counting the President himself. |
