Cool quiz, would be nice to have a bit more time.

The letters 'A' and 'N' account for more than half of the letters used in writing this set of seven groups of last three letters.

is there any reason why the letter combos go 4-3-2-2-2-3-2? Wouldnt it make sense for the second to last answer to be the third answer? That way the quiz goes in decreasing state order

Thanks Sporcle for the publish! @Digga: I didn't even notice that. It just so happened that it goes in decreasing order, except for the second to last answer.

Somehow the only one I missed was the one the most people got right.

Come on, no AII? Maybe I should have put in the apostrophe.... Or XAS? There have to be a dozen of them, right? Strangely, my first get was the least guessed. Go figure. Fun quiz.

Some of the shared endings are pretty lengthy. Multiple states end in "CAROLINA" "DAKOTA" "VIRGINIA" and "KANSAS" And the remaining three all have multiple states that share the last four letters: "-IANA", "-LAND" "-ASKA". :P
