Why does China include Taiwan and why are the Koreas combined?

The Koreas are probably combined to cover for immigrants arriving before the split. North Korea is so closed nowadays that you can probably assume almost all are from South Korea. The inclusion of Taiwan is due to political issues - the US haven't officially recognized Taiwan's independence.

Why are there so many Armenians in California?

@raiders, a lot of the "recent" Armenians have come from Iran and Russia, as well as Armenia, so that would skew the population numbers.

Gold, white and red are the colors of California's flag, that is more accurate

Kinda surprised to see Armenia is so low on the most-guessed list. They're a pretty big presence here. George Deukmejian, the Kardashians, System of a Down, etc. Heck, even the guy who created the Chipmunks.

Having never lived in or even been to California would have never guessed armenia, peru is also surprising (but I am mostly just saying that because I forgot it).

I wonder about the relatively small number of Russians (and Ukrainians!) To me it seemed like in Sacramento you hear more Russian than English :D

Long Beach, California, and Lowell, Massachusetts are the two main places in the U.S. where Cambodian immigrants have settled.

Great quiz. Having live in SoCal for a number of years, this was fun. Lots of Armenians around Pasadena. Lots of Iranians around Irvine. Lots of everybody else everywhere else. Great quiz.

@WyattsTorch: Clearly, you've never been to Glendale. Businesses close down for the Day of Remembrance (of the genocide by the Turks), and the school district's Winter Break starts just before Western Christmas so the kids are still out of school for Eastern Christmas, as celebrated by the Armenian community. I was suprised that Armenia wasn't much higher on the list.

Hey Danman4pres...of course Armenia would be there. The Kardashians are Armenian, they live in California, and there are a few thousand of them, right? LOL

So far 0.6% of those taking this quiz didn't take it in any way seriously. That or they know so little about California that they were wasting their time.

Our across the street neighbors were from El Salvador they packed up and moved 2 months ago, they said they have 2 houses and the taxes are lower it was cheaper to go home. We are from Northern California so I only missed 2 not bad for me I guess I do pay attention to my neighbors :)

@uphillrunner: Bragging-rights wise, that seems pretty small potatoes, though, yeah? Had your progenitors been uncannily savvy, they might have swapped spuds for nuggets 165 years ago, and Cali would be under benevolent Irish control today.

As a Californian who is the child of two foreign-born parents who are part of #2 of this list, I loved this quiz. Being a California definitely helped. All I had to remember was all the foreign food places I've been to in the LA area lol

Much as I hate to proselytize about anything, I'd just like to ask my fellow Americans to look at this list. Next time you bitch about Obama or the Republicans, think of all these people who want to come from all over to live in your country. I feel really proud of the size of this list, and it's just one state.

I was more surprised about Iran than Armenia when the answers were revealed. One of CA's former governors, George Deukmejian, is of Armenian heritage. Kirk Kerkorian can also make that heritage claim.
