| ok, I know that Sarah and Sara are different names, but statistically they should be counted as one.. Same goes for Hailey/Haley, Arianna/Ariana, Katherine/Catherine, Mariah/Maria, Gabrielle/Gabriella and so on.
Where I'm from, we count the names that are really the same, just with a little different spelling (Tor/Thor, Tom/Thom, John/Jon etc) as the same in these types of statistics.
Does really give you a better view of the world.
If, for example, you have 10 guys named Michael, and you have 9 guys named Jon and 9 named John, I would say that the name "John" is the more popular one, even though Michael has the higher count.. |
