I think its funny teams that are ineligble to even be in the Rose Bowl since the 1940s have been more times than Big Ten or Pac Ten teams.

Good quiz but really bad color scheme. Almost impossible to read

Interesting to see that three non-colleges played in the Rose bowl. Mare Island, Camp Lewis and Great Lakes were all military stations.
| benmarshall: | Jan 2nd, 2011 at 21:04 GMT | | 14 points |
the only people who couldve conceivably gotten Mare Island, Camp Lewis, and Great Lakes definitely looked at the comments.

Mare Island (USMC), Great Lakes(Navy), and Camp Lewis(Army) all played in 1918 and 1919 at the end of WWI. These were the fourth and fifth Rose Bowls ever played. Since Mare Island played in both years, Army and Navy never duked it out in the Rose Bowl

Fun fact: The Rose Bowl was held at Duke University one year during WWII for fear of Japanese intervention.

Great quiz. Love when the answers you miss are ones you'd never think of (looking at you mare island)

Dude, you have GOT to change the color scheme. Turrible!
| lcamp7: | Jan 4th, 2011 at 14:31 GMT | | 7 points |
Ok, I let my loyalty to the University of Illinois cloud my better judgment in the color scheme, but now it has been modified to be more eye pleasing. Thanks for the comments!

@benmarshall: I actually got one of those (Great Lakes) because I was looking up the history of the Rose Bowl with my family during this years game (which my frogs won :D) and my dad specifically pointed out that Great Lakes won since they were located in Chicago. But that was just pure coincidence that such a specific fact was of use on this quiz.

I had to type "Arizona" twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken... but nope, Arizona St. worked. Get on the ball, Wildcats!

Washington State played in the Rose Bowl multiple times according to the website you used. Make sure you use all the teams properly

Seriously Arizona? Not one trip to Pasadena? For God's sake, even Indiana and Northwestern have been there.

Seems as though Navy should count for Mare Island and Great Lakes, and Army should count for Camp Lewis.

It's interesting that as of now, more people have gotten Penn than Penn State. I'm guessing many people meant Penn State, got Penn, and either didn't notice or don't know the difference.
| radev: | Jan 3rd, 2012 at 22:34 GMT | | 0 points |
i typed "penn state" but the computer just took "penn". If I hadn't noticed it spelled "pennsylvania" I wouldn't have entered "penn state" a second time.

Is Arizona really the only non Pac 10 or Big 10 team not to make it? (not counting new Pac 12 additions) Even Nebraska, who just joined this year, has been to a Rose Bowl. Really sad Wildcats.

Mare Island was a Marine camp that played in the 1918 and 1919 Rose Bowls.
| Lovenkrands: | Jan 8th, 2013 at 05:55 GMT | | 1 point |
Booger: Easy to understand. A huge majority of those trying to type in the Big 10 school are going to start with "Penn" which is automatically taken for the Ivy. The only way to get Penn State first would be to start with "State", then go back to the front and type "Penn " in front of that, complete with the space. Almost impossible to see how Penn State would be more guessed than Penn.

I was typing Duke when time ran out. I would have never guessed Mare Island, Camp Lewis, Great Lakes, Tulane or Washington & Jefferson though. Enjoyed it, voted 5.
