My first two Guess the State games were played about 28,000 times, so I decided to make a third. But with capitals this time! I've been wanting to make this one for a while, but it's a lot of work. Here's the others in case you haven't played them: http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate2 http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate I hope you like this one! Let me know if there's any typos.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 09:52 GMT
Also, let me know if there's not enough time.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 15:00 GMT
Definitely need more time, I only had enough to get 2 of them.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 15:02 GMT
I did fine, but that might be because I guessed #1 on the first try. Also, you have Jefferson City listed twice, under "cold" and "freezing!" for #3.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 17:05 GMT
LinuxLinus: Oops, all fixed.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 18:07 GMT
I agree that it could use a bit more time. I like that it's kind of rushed but it felt a bit too much so. Great quiz otherwise.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 18:25 GMT
Ok, one more minute added.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 19:21 GMT
I find it ironic that Honolulu is listed as "Freezing" in all four columns.
Apr 11th, 2010 at 22:49 GMT
Now there is too much time. With 3 minutes, over 70% have gotten all 4 correct. I think 1 or 2 minutes should be fine. It would be more intense that way. I didn't rush at all and I finished in 1 minute 15 seconds.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 01:56 GMT
Great game. Got them all with 52 seconds to spare. 2 minutes would definitely be more intense.

too much time should only be a minute, maybe two
Apr 12th, 2010 at 05:27 GMT
Well, people said it was too short before! If I shorted it back, people might complain again. I wish 2 1/2 minutes was an option.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 06:04 GMT
a minute and a half would definitely be the best option, but 2 minutes should suffice. 3 was waaaay too much.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 07:39 GMT
Fine, fine, I changed it back to two minutes, but people better not complain again about it being too short.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 10:50 GMT
2 minutes is right. Anything more is essentially enough time to just type pretty much all the capitals randomly without regard to the hints.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 13:38 GMT
lol, found it funny on first one how I had Santa fe and Harrsiburgh as both lukewarm. Had me scratching my head. lol.
Apr 12th, 2010 at 13:50 GMT
got all 4 with.......2 seconds left! :)
Apr 12th, 2010 at 19:39 GMT
I started with my wife's hometown which was one of the correct guesses.

sporcle needs more of these quizzes
Apr 13th, 2010 at 04:12 GMT
good quiz, good amount of time... i finished with 30 seconds left but was cruising right along. definitely not enough time to bs the quiz but enough to be able to actually have a chance.

If only there was a way to make an option of a longer time for non-US folk. I was getting there, but more slowly. I would have loved more time, but I won't whine about it if the US folk find it too much time already. Interesting format! I appreciated how -- like Honolulu -- Juneau was "freezing" across the board.
Apr 15th, 2010 at 11:10 GMT
As a non-American I ran out of time, but I probably wouldn't have remembered Harrisburg with all the time in the world, so I guess it's fine. Juneau - Freezing! It sure is :)

absolutely loved this quiz!
May 3rd, 2010 at 00:29 GMT
That was awesome!!!
Jun 16th, 2010 at 13:56 GMT
2 more seconds would've done it... dang you, Pittsburgh for seeming more like the capital of Pennsylvania for a moment. Great quiz, very original concept.
Jul 23rd, 2010 at 01:49 GMT
This is fuuuuuunnnnnnn! I got the last one with 1 tic left haha
Nov 2nd, 2010 at 20:47 GMT
Awesome! Finished with 7 seconds left!
Nov 28th, 2010 at 00:13 GMT
How do you make these types of quizzes? How do you make it so that there is only one answer? I tried and you have to answer all fifty to finish the quiz!
Dec 20th, 2010 at 06:43 GMT
I got so frustrated because I thought I was spelling Albuquerque wrong! ...then the quiz ended and I was gently reminded that the capital of New Mexico is Santa Fe. Great quiz!!

@qwerty77: all apart from the 4 targets should be bonus answers; the quiz creation FAQ explains how to make things bonus answers. @kristen58: at 2:00 it now seems just right, doable but with a bit of pressure.
Dec 20th, 2010 at 19:15 GMT
Love these types of quizzes. I agree that 2 minutes is just right. I felt pressure all the way and finished with only a few seconds left. Will someone please do a countries quiz?
Sep 6th, 2011 at 17:09 GMT
@qwerty77: You have to have a total of 200 answers for this quiz, because you have to list all 50 states for each answer. For all except the right answers, you put "ee" to make it a bonus answer. You also have to put the correct answers at the top, and all the bonus answers after that.

I'm proud of this quiz, and I wish it would get published like my other two of the series were http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate2 http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate

Easy, but fun!

It's pretty interesting that the city that is guessed correctly significantly less frequently is the one that is centrally located in the United States. At first thought, it seems counterintuitive, but then it makes sense, because it's much easier to work from an edge due to "sure-gained" ground.

Yay! This is the third of my games chosen to be published. This quiz was actually written about a year ago. If you liked it, play my other two in the same series: http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate http://www.sporcle.com/games/kristen58/guessstate2

I got Jefferson City on my first guess. I guess it helps living in Missouri.
