	Exactly right on Rolling Stone not getting its definitions. Yesterday is NOT A POP SONG. Neither is Smells Like Teen Spirit, or With or Without You, Like A Rolling Stone, Nothing Compares 2 U, or actually about 50% of these songs. Its certainly not the quiz writers fault that Rolling Stone simply does not get it.

	As always, Rolling Stone is totally out to lunch when it comes to music. There are a million examples - one is - `Love Shack` is there and no Pink Floyd anywhere on the list. I know everyone`s list would be different but this ones a joke.

	I really hope this list wasn't compiled solely on taste, since I'm sure most of these had a lot of impact on music, but aren't that good. I think Rolling Stone needs to update it's definition of, "greatest." Smells Like Teen Spirit at #3? And of all Michael Jackson songs to choose, I think Thriller, at least the video, would have had way more impact, and more popularity, than Beat It.

	@WyattsTorch: list is garbage, an atrocity; however 'in my life' is a great song (to me) "Yesterday" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" are damn good and 'twist and shout' I consider more rock and roll. Lennon was trying to make his voice rougher/coarser(?) and you don't do that for pop.

	What were the criteria? In so many instances there were songs by each artist that were far superior in their originality, impact, and virtuosity than the ones chosen. Not all, mind you - which makes the list puzzling. So bizarre.

	@NPHandler: as I heard the Twist and Shout myth, John Lennon's voice WAS hoarse the day they recorded it. After a marathon recording session he agreed to record T&S providing he would only have to do a single take, since he hadn't enough voice to do multiple takes. The rest is history.

	The definition of "pop" certainly changes with the times and with who's using the word. Scholars of music (and many critics) would consider pop to encompass all "popular music" (as opposed to classical art music or traditional folk music). This definition would encompass all these songs, plus blues, jazz, reggae, and hundreds of other styles. I'll agree that in modern parlance, in America and England at least, most music fans consider "pop" to be a very particular style of popular rock or R&B music, but I bet most of us would be hard-pressed to define it. For me I think it's mostly a Potter-Stewart's-definition-of-pornography type of thing ("I know it when I see/hear it"): Lady Gaga is pop. Radiohead (post-Pablo Honey) is not. But really, what's the difference? Lyrical content? Something in the music itself? Anyone care to take a stab?

	Yup, Rolling Stone sure sucks. No Boston or Journey on the list? I am quite certain that Dont Stop Believin' and More than a Feeling are better songs than the Biz Markie and Wyclef Jean entries, for cryin' out loud! And don't even get me started on Eminem.

	If people are going to complain about their definition of "pop", perhaps supply your own. Pop is short for popular and these are all popular songs (unlike other RS lists, which might include acts like Velvet Underground who were never that popular). The list happens to suck, but I'd say it follows the pop criteria.

	I was surprised at some of the songs missing from the list (Thriller, for one). But overall the list's not too bad - I figure RS's looking at songs that were either popular at their time of release, are still recognizable today, or are some combination of the two. I would have made some changes, especially in the ordering, but it's not horrific.

	Well, I agree that a lot of the above isn't what oyu would call 'pop', but sometimes 'pop' is defined as everything except things such as classical, religious etc. I have no problem with that, but if they are being that broad, where the hell is Elvis? When I first saw the list I also thought there is not enough beatles or MJ, and yet they didn't (on the whole) pick the best of them anyway. Elton John choices were a joke.
