The Armenian Apostolic Church, an Oriental Orthodox communion, traditionally claims succession through the apostles Thaddeus and Bartholomew from the 1st century. This quiz begins in 301 AD, when Armenia became the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion under King Tiridates III and received its first official primate. Since the Middle Ages, there has also been an autonomous succession of catholicoi at Cilicia in modern-day Türkiye, as well Armenian patriarchates in Constantinople and Jerusalem. This quiz covers only the Catholicoi of All Armenians, who oversees the church from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in the city of Vagharshapat. See playlist for quizzes on other successions.
