	Barry Sanders is a super-talented quitter. Walter Payton never quit, never ran out of bounds, KEPT PLAYING for a horrible team until it finally paid off (again unlike Barry, who got so impatient with the Lions he quit on them and buried their franchise), he was the best blocker of all time besides being a great runner, and he was a great team leader. I'll take Walter. And my team will beat yours.

	Basically, to close this argument - ask NFL coaches and GMs which back they'd rather have, which they'd rather build a franchise around. The only guy they may choose above Payton is Jim Brown. It isn't Barry or Emmitt or LT.

	Oh and if we're just counting pure electricity and talent and big plays, Gale Sayers beats Barry. Sayers finished with the same YPC despite finishing his short career a shell of himself. None of you nerds are qualified to talk football.

	I blanked out on Thomas Jones. Also, while Shade is obviously just a Bears fan, Payton is the best of this group. Barry Sanders was one of the greatest ever but not the all-around player Payton was. Payton also played until he couldn't. Barry gave it up. Which is cool; you don't have to keep playing a violent game if you don't want to, but it does hurt him in this discussion here in a Sporcle comment section.

	@ John Shade: Are you really trashing Barry Sanders? I agree that Walter Payton is the best back of all time, but Barry Sanders deserves one heck of an honorable mention. You can't pin the Lions last decade of losing on him. A lack of an influential owner overshadowed by years of busted draft picks mixed with bad coaching made those bad teams so bad. Barry Sanders did things on a football field that no one ever could do before and may never be able to do again. I have had the pleasure to be around him outside of football as well and he is a decent human being. He is kind, respectful, and not at all self-absorbed. Barry ran the ball for a otherwise bad team for a long time. He doesn't owe anyone anything and can hang his cleats up with pride.
