Elton John did a cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" that was a much bigger hit than Shatner's version (which, in fact, was not a hit at all). Many of these other songs have multiple cover versions.

I think Joan Jett and the Blackhearts version of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" was much bigger than Britney Spears version...

Gob also covered Paint it, Black - It was on the Stir of Echoes soundtrack. In fact, if you wiki Paint It, Black, a version by "The Wasps" isn't even mentioned, tho it IS wikipedia.

are the wasps supposed to be 80s hair band W.A.S.P., who did cover paint it black? +1 to the elton john and joan jett snubs, thats just wrong. and the jeff beck group covered you shook me as well.
